Prepare Your Skin For Fall
Summer is over and so is the extra beating our skin took from the sun, water, heat, chlorine, and neglect (yup, summer is the time people neglect their skin the most)! Want a quick pick me up and a little facial rejuvenation? There's no better way to do this than to remove those dead skin cells that hang around on our faces making skin look dull and lackluster.
Removing dead skin cells makes your skin:
- Feel and look smoother
- Feel and look softer
- Less prone to breakouts by removing dead cells that can clog your pores
- Look brighter and more radiant
- Get the full benefit of your skincare products (and your money's worth) by removing dead skin cells that get in the way of proper absorption.
Two of the most common types of exfoliators are granular and AHA/BHA or chemical exfoliators. They both have benefits but just a slightly different way of approaching the issue.Granular exfoliators work on the surface of the skin to remove dead skin cells and leave your skin feeling smoother and softer. Avoid granular exfoliators that contain fruit pits or nut pieces. They are way too harsh for your skin and can do more damage than they repair.
Chemical exfoliators in the form of alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids (AHA's or BHA's) work on the surface of your skin as well but in a different and deeper way. They dissolve the "glue," if you will, that keeps the dead skin cells stuck. BHAs (salicylic acid) are particularly good for acneic skin because they get into the pore and dissolve debris allowing the oil to move more freely and not clog the pore which leads to breakouts.
This is the bare essentials of exfoliating. What you choose to do will depend on your age, lifestyle, commitment to skincare, and skin condition. People with rosacea or extremely sensitive skin should consult their dermatologist before using any type of exfoliator.
Whatever your choice, regular exfoliating is important for the beauty
and health of your skin.
